The Unwritten Rules of Early Intervention: A Field Guide (Because Apparently, We Need One)
Over the years, my fellow Early Intervention warriors and I have shared countless “you wouldn’t believe what just happened” moments. It’s like a badge of honor – the crazier the story, the more knowing nods you get from your colleagues. Over time, we realized these seemingly random moments are universal.
This got us thinking: maybe there’s a need for an unofficial Early Intervention Rulebook, like Gibbs’ pearls of wisdom in NCIS. You know, the stuff you don’t learn in textbooks but glean through trial by fire.
We all have a mental handbook of unwritten rules for navigating the wild world of early intervention.
The Power of Unwritten Rules
Lisa Cobb from Johns Hopkins University explains it well: social norms are the glue that holds communities together. They’re the unspoken “you just know” things that guide our behavior. In Early Intervention, this translates to a whole new set of unwritten rules beyond the child development textbooks.
In Early Intervention, these unwritten rules are about more than just bathroom etiquette. They’re about self-care, respecting families, and staying safe.
My “Gibbs Code” for Early Intervention
So, while we may not be fighting bad guys like on NCIS, we have our own set of unwritten rules forged in the fires of experience. We can laugh at the craziness, learn from each other’s mishaps, and, ultimately, provide the best possible support for the families and children we serve.
Sharing the Journey
Now, share your own unwritten rules of Early Intervention in the comments below. Let’s keep this conversation going!
