To be honest, I never really got excited for St. Patrick’s Day. It was just another day on the calendar. But now? It’s filled with some of the most precious memories our family holds. It was March 17 when we closed on our first home. We adopted a dog years later on St Patty’s Day. More recently it was St Patrick’s Day when we welcomed Baby ”Boo Boo Bear” into our family for a season.
And now? We’re in a whole new season. Our Boo-Boo Bear is graduating from the world of early intervention! It’s bittersweet, watching him grow up, and we’re so proud of the amazing little boy he’s become.
I know many of you are interested in the early intervention lessons learned and new perspectives gained by experiences with therapeutic foster parenting a medically fragile child. I want to share that journey with you, but I also want to be very clear: I will always respect the privacy and confidentiality of the children in our care. So, while I’ll share some of our experiences, I won’t be sharing every detail. In fact details will be changed …just enough.
That is just the start of our story. There will be more to dive into —including the practical side of things, like:
- G-tube challenges and triumphs G-tube posts
- Wheelchair accessibility in football stadiums
- CVI (cortical vision impairment) adaptation strategies
- Big Mac Trick-or-treating
- Music therapy impact
Whether you’re a parent, a professional, or both, like me, I hope you’ll find our experiences helpful. Everyone’s journey is unique, and I am here to offer encouragement.
