This past Christmas, my aunt shared that she had been decluttering her home as they prepared for a move. Among all the toys collected throughout the years of raising her children, she narrowed them down to a finite number. One of them was a Marble Works set from the 80s! It was a wow moment, seeing a toy from my own childhood still bringing joy to a new generation. My kids were captivated by the puzzle of building a track for the marbles to wind their way through. It was a reminder that some toys truly stand the test of time. Other toys that made the cut were Maple Town and Clue.
This got me thinking about the toys we choose to keep from our children’s childhood. My mom saved all my baby dolls, and Josh’s mom saved his Legos. What toys from your children will you save?
Some advise against holding on to too many old toys, saying that it can clutter homes and overwhelm children. However, there’s something special about keeping a few cherished items. Perhaps it’s a sentimental value, a reminder of a particular memory, or simply a toy that sparks imagination.
